So what’s the fifth moon? Look to the right of Dione, right at the rings. See that tiny bump? That’s dinky Prometheus, all of 119 km (71 miles) along its longest dimension — it’s basically a spud orbiting Saturn. Prometheus, along with its sister moon Pandora, act like shepherds, keeping Saturn’s F-ring particles entrained."

Space shuttle Endevor docking at the ISS for the last time

Two days ago, powerful yet controlled explosions rocketed the Space Shuttle Endeavour on its final trip into Earth orbit. The above image was taken seconds after liftoff as the massive orbiter and six astronauts began a climb to a height where the atmosphere is so thin it is unbreathable. The shuttle, on mission STS-134, is expected to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) today.

Louis Wain: The Man Who Drew Cats

Often held up as THE classic example of a schizophrenic artist, in recent decades there has come to be greater respect for the talents of Victorian-era illustrator of anthropomorphic cats, Louis Wain.

Wain’s famous felines were born of his efforts to amuse his wife as she was dying of breast cancer. Wain would draw their cat, Peter, with eyeglasses, pretending to read. This style was developed over the years and eventually Wain’s cats began to walk upright and wear contemporary clothes. They engaged in activities like smoking, fishing, playing musical instruments and having tea parties.

In the final years of his life, Wain’s cats became more abstract and less whimsical. His once playful cats began to resemble fearsome, almost kaleidoscopic, Hindu deities. Many psychological textbooks feature drawings from various stages in the artist’s career to show the progression of Wain’s schizophrenia.

Its crazy to actually track someones decent into the depths of schizophrenia through their artistic flare. But certainly does make for some amazing paintings.

Aura Borealis



This photo was taken from the ISS, you can clearly see the aura borealis creating shimmering light patterns on the surface of the Earth. What an amazing shot, seeing the curvature of the Earth must be the most enlightening feeling.

Panda hat anyone ?

Super Moon

19th March showed the moon at its perigree which meant it was at its closest to the Earth (due to its elliptical orbit) since 1983. Although it was fairly cloudy where i was (Cardiff, Wales) It did look impressive rising through the thin clouds at around 7 O clock. Below are some pictures taken from around the world.

Whats really interesting is how and why the moon looks bigger when its closer to the horizon, its still theroized by scientists and astromoners today. If you want to read up about it (you should its interesting) heres a link.
